The festival runs from 19-29th October and organisers expect over 100 events to be submitted, with over 7,500 people attending the festival which takes place in Manchester, UK.  Registrations closed on Monday July 31st 2017.

Who can enter the festival?

The Women in Comedy Festival is an open access festival focused on women and is of course trans-inclusive. We welcome support from male feminists, mixed comedy troupes are welcome to apply and we are also interested to receive applications from male comedians if the performance is relevant to the aims and ethos of the festival.


Registration only:

If you have or can arrange your own venue,  technical team, front of house and marketing you can apply to submit your show to the festival for registration only. 


As a registered show you will be listed in the Women in Comedy Festival Program Guide.

You will also have a show page with links for online ticket purchases on our website during the Festival.  Your registration fee also goes towards the general marketing of the Festival as a whole.

You keep 100% of your box office sales.

Apply for a show at a festival managed venue (FMV):

The festival hires, fits out and staffs several venues within Greater Manchester. If you apply and are accepted in a festival managed venue (FMV), you will be provided with a venue fully equipped with sound, lighting, staging, seating and crew so that all shows are produced to the relevant professional standards we expect at the Women In Comedy festival and you can focus on ensuring your show is the best it can be.


Festival managed venue (FMV) shows are ran on a 70/30 split in the artist’s favour.


The festival will provide:

your show details added to the festivals listings.

a venue fully equipped with sound, lighting, staging and seating.

box office for online ticket sales

a sound engineer, front of house and box office staff.

sound check or rehearsal space

general festival promotion

Please note rehearsals and sound checks MUST be booked in at the time of submission. Soundcheck and run through can not be arranged after the listings deadline which is 4th July


You will be responsible for

all creative aspects of your show

paying the festival submission fee

marketing and publicity for your show

- promoting your show via social media

designing a flyer and poster for your show

arranging for printed marketing materials

distributing your publicity


To apply for to have your show at a FMV venue you will need to complete the festival application form


Apply for a show at a festival managed venue with individual marketing support for your show (FMV+)

With this option you will have all the benefits of a festival managed venue plus additional marketing support specifically for your show (FMV+) shows are ran on a 50/50 box office split.


The festival will provide:

your show details added to the festivals listings.

a venue fully equipped with sound, lighting, staging and seating.

box office for online ticket sales

a sound engineer, front of house and box office staff.

sound check or rehearsal space

general festival promotion

additional marketing support including:

- distribution for up to 10 posters*

- distribution of flyers on at least 2 of our flyer runs*

- at least 3 tweets advertising your show

- at least 100 invites to your FB event

flyering for at least one hour before your show

an advert on our website

Funny Women Awards

The Women in Comedy Festival is proud to have linked up with the Funny Women Awards to encourage more women to take part and ensure there a worthwhile progression route. Funny Women stage awards heats will be running throughout October and November, with regional finals in the new year and the Funny Women Awards Final around International Women’s Day 2018. Open Mic Opportunities

Please email us info@womenincomedy.co.uk if you would like to apply for an open mic slot. These slots are 5-7minute unpaid slots. You do not need to fill out a submission form to book in for open mic slots or pay a submission fee. 


Comedy shorts slots

Please email us info@womenincomedy.co.uk if you would like to apply for a comedy short slot. These slots are 15-20 minute slots paid on a door split basis. You do not need to fill out a submission form to book in for comedy short slots. You will be matched with two other acts and the door takings and submission fee will be split between the acts and wil therefore be £10 per act, each performing 15-20 minute slots during and hour long show.


To register for an open mic or comedy short slot you will need to provide the following information;

• Your name / performance name

• Good quality image

A sentence about yourself, experience, style of comedy

Any website, your tube or social media links


We book comedy short slots the first two weeks of May 2016 and the finalise the slots at the end of July. We also announce some slots via our facebook group so if you are on FB you might like to join the Women in Comedy Performers group.


Box office settlements

Takes place from 1-20th November please send invoice to info@womenincomedy.co.uk. For FMV please collect settlement receipt after your, please note all cash payments are banked daily.


Confirming you show:
If your show is accepted the deadline for show confirmation for the 2017 festival is Monday 4th July 2017. By this date your submission fee should have been paid and your show should be listed on the website, if it is not we can not guarantee entry into the program

Deadline for show confirmation for the 2017 festival is 4th August 2017. Your submission fee should be paid by 4th August and your show title, biog and an relevant imaged to accompany your listing should have been emailed to info@womenincomedy.co.uk

N.B If your application is not successful you will not be asked to pay a submission fee. If you have booked in for an open spot you also do not need to pay a submission fee.


I’ve submitted an application for 2017 when will i hear back?
Your application will be assessed on a first come first served basis at one of our submissions meetings which run every Tuesday from March - June 2016. Once assessed we will email you with our decision or comments between March and June depending on how early you submitted your application
